United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has officially announced the appointment of Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam of Bangladesh as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
Major General Minhazul Alam succeeds Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri of Mongolia. The Secretary-General extended his sincere appreciation to Major General Batsuuri for his dedicated service and leadership during his tenure.
A Legacy of Leadership and Excellence
Major General Minhazul Alam brings more than 30 years of distinguished military experience within the Bangladesh Army to this high-profile international role. His career is marked by significant command and strategic positions:
- Most Recent Role: General Officer Commanding at the Army Training and Doctrine Command.
- Command Experience: Served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 10 Infantry Division and Area Commander in Cox’s Bazar (2024–2026).
- Academic Leadership: Served as the Commandant of the prestigious Defence Services Command and Staff College (2024).
