Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan, committed to establishing the rule of law, is the new Deputy Attorney General.
Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan, a renowned lawyer and human rights activist of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, has been appointed as the Deputy Attorney General (DAG) of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. His appointment was announced in a notification signed by Solicitor Sana Md. Mahruf Hossain from the Solicitors’ Division (GP-PP Branch) of the Law and Justice Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Thursday (July 30). He has been transferred to this post by the order of His Excellency the President under the powers conferred by Section 3(1) of the Bangladesh Law Officers Order, 1972. He will serve the state in the Supreme Court until further orders.
A colorful background combining education and talent
Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan was born on December 20, 1984 in Genda Mahalla of Savar Municipality in Dhaka District. His father, the late Shahab Uddin Khan (known as ‘Makar Daroga’ in the area), was a former officer of the Bangladesh Police. In addition, in the historical context, he is the ninth descendant of ‘Dilal Raja’, the historical ruler of Sandwip and the hero who suppressed pirates.

Secondary and Higher Secondary: Savar Shishukanan Academy and Savar Cantonment Public School and College. Higher Education: Graduated (Honours) from the English Department of Jahangirnagar University (31st batch).
Law Education (UK): Completed LLB (Honours) from the prestigious ‘University of London’ in the UK and completed the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) from the ‘University of the West of England’ in Bristol. He then obtained a Barrister-at-Law degree from the prestigious ‘The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn’ in the UK.
Other Postgraduate Education: He has a Postgraduate Diploma in Governance Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations from Dhaka University.
Professional Skills and Social Leadership
He is currently successfully serving as the head of the law consultancy firm ‘Shihab Khan & Co.’. He is a long-time active member of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Dhaka Bar Association, Dhaka Taxes Bar Association and Bangladesh Bar Council. He is a well-known face in complex cases related to protecting public interest, human rights and the constitution. He is also closely associated with the UK branch of the international human rights organization Amnesty International.
Role in the political and cultural arena:
Elected Senate member in the registered graduate category of Jahangirnagar University. He attracted attention in 2017 by being elected as the youngest member even in adverse political circumstances.
General Secretary of Jahangirnagar University Lawyers Association. Former Deputy General Secretary of the Supreme Court Unit of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum. Founding member and former president of the Baisakhi Friends Society, executive member of the Kabi Jasim Uddin Parishad, and member of the Dhaka Cycling Club. He is also a prominent presence in the media and TV as a national and international policy-maker and political analyst.

In an immediate reaction after being appointed as Deputy Attorney General, Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan said:
