President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid on Tuesday reiterated Iraq’s steadfast commitment to international efforts to combat terrorism.
The Presidency’s Media Department reported that President Rashid took part in a memorial ceremony at the UN Mission headquarters in Baghdad, commemorating both the International Day of Humanitarian Action and the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist bombing that claimed the lives of UN Special Representative Sergio Vieira de Mello and several of his colleagues.
During the event, UN Special Representative Mohammed Al-Hassan praised President Rashid’s participation, underscoring the UN’s enduring role in Iraq and honoring the sacrifices made by its staff. President Rashid laid a wreath at the memorial and expressed deep appreciation for the victims’ legacy, noting that their sacrifices “reinforce humanitarian values and inspire those who continue this vital work despite great risks.”
The President emphasized Iraq’s firm stance in supporting global counterterrorism initiatives and extended heartfelt condolences, on behalf of the Iraqi people, to the families of the victims.
