First Lady Melania Trump made a rare public appearance at the White House, warning that “the robots are here” and saying America must prepare children for an AI-driven future. She compared AI to children, saying it must be guided carefully. The event was part of a White House AI education task force.
Melania Trump, born in Slovenia, has often been less visible than other first ladies. During Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, many people even asked, “Where is Melania?” She spends much of her time away from Washington, but since Trump’s second term began in January, she has taken a more active role.
Her main focus has been on children, building on her earlier “Be Best” initiative. Recently, she helped push through the Take It Down Act, which makes it illegal to share intimate or AI-generated images without consent. Unusually, she co-signed the bill into law with her husband, showing her growing influence.

Experts say Melania’s approach is different from past first ladies. While many focus on children and education from a “motherly” view, she takes a business-like approach, working with companies such as Google and IBM. She has been able to bring more outside groups to the table than in her first term.
She has also spoken about global issues. Recently, she wrote to Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling for protection of children and future generations. This earned her recognition from other first ladies worldwide.
Analysts believe Melania will remain selective, choosing only issues that matter most to her. She is less visible than others, but when she speaks, she focuses on important topics like technology, children, and global responsibility. As one expert said, “She does it on her terms – quality, not quantity.”
