A Bangladeshi national accused of operating a large-scale online child sexual exploitation network is set to appear in federal court in Alaska today. According to U.S. court documents, 28-year-old Zobaidul Amin was indicted in July 2022 by a federal grand jury for allegedly targeting and exploiting hundreds of minor victims in Alaska, other parts of the United States, and abroad.
Investigators say Amin used social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat to identify and pressure minors into producing explicit images and videos. Authorities allege the operation involved multiple victims and extended across international borders.

Before the U.S. charges were filed, Amin had been living in Malaysia, where he was studying at a medical school. In September 2022, Malaysian authorities charged him with 13 counts related to possession and production of child pornography. Following coordination between U.S. and Malaysian law enforcement agencies, Amin was transferred from Malaysia to Alaska on March 4.
U.S. officials described the case as one of the most significant online child exploitation investigations in recent years. Amin now faces several charges, including conspiracy, child exploitation enterprise, cyberstalking, identity theft, and wire fraud. If convicted, he could face a sentence ranging from 20 years to life in prison.
