Tamil actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay has officially announced that he will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Madurai East. Speaking at a huge rally in Madurai, Vijay declared that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), will be an independent third front in the state, offering an alternative to both the DMK and AIADMK.
Vijay made it clear that TVK will not form alliances for the polls. He called the BJP his “ideological enemy” and the DMK his “political enemy.” He also added that TVK was not started for political gain but to bring meaningful change. “The 2026 elections will be between DMK and TVK,” he told his supporters.
The actor outlined his party’s priorities, focusing on the safety and welfare of women, farmers, youth, transgender people, the elderly, and the disabled. He promised that his government would be “friendly” to those needing special care and that TVK’s vision is people-centered.
To inspire his followers, Vijay used the metaphor of a lion. He said, “When a lion roars, it is heard far and wide. The lion hunts only live prey, never touching dead flesh. Likewise, TVK is here to win with strength and dignity.”
This will be Vijay’s first election since he formally entered politics in 2023 by launching TVK. By projecting himself as a strong challenger to the ruling DMK and distancing his party from both national and state-level alliances, Vijay is positioning TVK as a new force in Tamil Nadu politics.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled for 2026, and Vijay’s entry promises to make the political battle more intense and competitive.
