On Tuesday, President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid again confirmed that Iraq will continue to support the world in the fight against terrorism.
The President joined a memorial ceremony at the UN Mission headquarters in Baghdad. The event marked the International Day of Humanitarian Action and the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attack that killed UN Special Representative Sergio Vieira de Mello and many of his colleagues in 2003.
During the ceremony, UN Special Representative Mohammed Al-Hassan praised President Rashid for attending. He also spoke about the important work of the UN and the sacrifices made by its staff in Iraq.
President Rashid laid a wreath at the memorial to honor the victims. He thanked them for their sacrifices and said their memory reminds the world of the importance of humanitarian values. He also noted that their example continues to inspire people who risk their lives to help others.
The President repeated Iraq’s strong commitment to fighting terrorism together with the international community. He said that Iraq stands firmly with the global effort to make the world safer. Finally, he offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, speaking on behalf of the Iraqi people.
